The Falcons Nest

Nederlandse versie JBA Owners Club Trip to Holland Nederlandse versie

Sunday was a free day, with no organised events. However there were many events and tours, listed in the excellent book, forty pages in all, produced by Leo. This was a similar size, as the old JBA owners club magazine.

Many owners visited Tiel to view the carnival floats, that were in storage, these were made out of real fruit. Others decided to take some of the tours.

Sunday evening we all met in the bowling alley at the camp for a drink and a game of bowls.

This was quite a laugh, I would have done better, had there been white lines painted down the lanes.

Monday was also a free day. Some of our party ventured over the border into Germany.
Others paid a visit to Arnhem and visited the war graves.

A few of us attended Burgers Zoo.

This is a fascinating place. Split into various sections, a huge collection of animals from all over the world.

The Aquarium centre displayed an exciting range of tropical marine fish in huge tanks. The fishes swimming all around one and even overhead.

A stop at the Watering hole in the Desert section for a coffee.

Tuesday was a planned event. We started off with a visit to a windmill in Veenendaal called
"De Vriendschap"

We were greeted by the miller Mr.Van Eden. Our party were split into two groups for our tour of the windmill. Those that waited were given tea, coffee and cakes, until the first party returned.

The tour was excellent, as Mr. Van Eden explained such a lot, how windmills were first made and how different engineering techniques were introduced to turn the sails, to make the mills more productive.

In this photo Mr. Van Eden is showing us how the sails are tied up, to reduce the wind speed.

A view of some of the cars from the windmill.

After the visit we chose one of the runs listed by Leo. We stopped for lunch on the way.

Wednesday was also a planned run, which members could attend if they wished. Starting off from the camp, our first stop was at The Weistaar cheese farm and museum. The museum was beautifully appointed, a real showcase, depicting the Dutch cheese through the ages. We were treated to coffee and cheese. The farm had a separate display area, where you could see the milking of the cows, through glass windows.

From there we travelled a short distance to the Dutch Military Aviation Museum.

The museum records the history of the Dutch Air Force since it began.

We were not allowed to take photos in the hall.
